Excessive use of social networks
Dr. Martin Viktora is conducting research among students to examine their social networking behavior
Why is it important?
- their attention is consistently distracted and their distractibility grows
- growing manifestations of loneliness, depression among young people (the viral world does not match the real one)
- constant use of smartphones disrupts concentration (e.g. in lectures and seminars)
- their ability to read coherent texts and to summarise material decreases
- they resort to social networking in moments of personal crisis, it becomes addictive
- their ability to think critically and make decisions in critical situations does not develop
- hours in front of screens has negative health effects (myopia, overweight, sleep disorders, heart disorders, etc.)
- efforts at parental or teacher regulation lead them to emotional – uncritical defensiveness
- time spent on social (entertainment) networks is not devoted to other important activities and tasks
